Department of Labor Delays Employer Requirement to Notify Employees of Health Exchange

The Department of Labor (DOL) has announced that the requirement for employers to provide notice of Insurance Exchanges to their employees will not take effect on March 1, 2013 as originally planned.

The DOL now estimates that the notice requirement will take effect late summer or fall of 2013, which would coincide with the Exchanges’ open enrollment period.

The DOL is also considering providing a template with generic language that employers can use to satisfy the notice requirement.

Considering it will be summertime before we have concrete information on the new individual exchange (and California is WAY ahead of everyone else), this only makes sense.  Allpointe will keep small business clients apprised as new requirements and regulations come out.
